A chopper gearbox does not operate in isolation. Power flows to it through a PTO shaft \u2014 a cardan driveshaft carrying a pair of universal joints \u2014 and the angular relationship, shaft length, and cross-joint phasing of that PTO shaft directly determine the torsional vibration profile arriving at the gearbox input flange.
