The base cutter gearbox receives hydraulic or mechanical power through a high-torque PTO shaft. It utilizes heavy-duty spiral bevel gears to change the rotation by 90 degrees while simultaneously stepping down the RPM to increase torque. This torque is transmitted to the base cutter discs, which spin at approximately 400-600 RPM. The ability to maintain rotational inertia when the blades hit thick cane stools is critical for a clean cut and minimum stool damage.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
