Working Principle

The HC30 receives rotational power from the tractor’s 540 RPM PTO shaft via a 1 3/8 Z6 splined input connection. The internal bevel or helical gear set — with a 32-tooth driven gear meshing against an 11-tooth drive pinion — steps down input speed while multiplying output torque at a 1:2.9 ratio. This increased torque is delivered through the optic axis output to drive rotary tines or blades, ensuring consistent soil penetration depth even as ground resistance fluctuates across field sections. The gear meshing action is lubricated by a sealed oil bath, maintaining film thickness across the tooth contact zone under sustained field operation.

Construction & Materials

The outer casing is formed from high-grade cast iron, chosen for its vibration-damping properties and resistance to impact damage from soil stones — a genuine concern on stony upland farms across Yorkshire, Devon, and the Scottish Borders.
